Based in Melbourne, Australia, St Kilda Films is well known for making high quality documentaries on social issues such as the arts, autism and the screen sector, as well as feature films.
St Kilda Films’ principal is Mark Poole, an award-winning film and television writer and director with a PhD in creativity in screenwriting. Mark is the head of the Australian Directors’ Guild in Victoria, and was previously National Vice President of the Australian Writers’ Guild. Professor Lisa French contributes as a co-producer, writer and director.
Mark wrote the acclaimed feature A Single Life which was screened in the UK as well as Australia and more than 50 other territories globally, and which won an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award. He has also written numerous hours of television series. He is currently developing the romcom Coincidence about a woman who sparks romance between single people by setting up chance meetings. He also has a number of other features and TV series in development.
Mark is currently working on the feature documentary 88 Days A Slave with director/writer Christina Stenseth. The film is about young international travellers to Australia who get exploited, underpaid and abused. The documentary has received development funding from Screen Australia and is supported by Documentary Australia.
